Starting from Delhi, the yatra takes you through Haridwar, one of the holiest cities in India situated on the banks of the Ganga River, then onward to the tranquil town of Uttarkashi on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. From there you travel to Gangotri Dham, the sacred spiritual source region of the River Ganga , then trek up to the legendary Kedarnath Temple standing at approximately 3,583 metres amid the glaciers of the Himalayas, and finally to the revered Badrinath Temple on the banks of the Alaknanda River. The yatra concludes with a visit to Rishikesh, the Yoga Capital of the World, before you return to Delhi carrying unforgettable memories and the blessings of the Himalayas.

Day 01 Delhi to Haridwar

Distance: Approx. 230 to 250 km

Driving Time: 6 to 7 hours 

Your sacred yatra begins with an early morning departure from Delhi by private vehicle towards Haridwar, one of the holiest cities in India and the main gateway for pilgrims heading into the Himalayas. Beautifully situated on the banks of the Ganga River in Uttarakhand, Haridwar sets the spiritual tone for everything that lies ahead. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and take some well-earned rest after the drive.

In the evening, head to the famous Har Ki Pauri ghat to witness the mesmerising Ganga Aarti. As the sun dips behind the hills, priests light hundreds of oil lamps and offer them to the river with chanting, ringing bells and fragrant flowers. The sight of the glowing river in the evening light, with the sound of prayers rising all around, is deeply moving and something you will always carry in your heart. After the aarti, explore the local markets and nearby ghats at your own pace. Dinner and overnight stay at Haridwar.

 

Day 02 Haridwar to Uttarkashi

Distance: Approx. 190 km

Driving Time: 6 to 7 hours

After breakfast, continue your journey towards Uttarkashi, a beautiful and peaceful Himalayan town on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. The scenic drive passes through Narendra Nagar, Chamba and the Tehri region, offering magnificent views of green hills, open valleys and the shimmering river flowing below. Along the way, stop to admire the impressive Tehri Dam and the lovely scenery surrounding it.

Upon arrival in Uttarkashi, check in at the hotel and relax. In the evening, visit the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the most important shrines on the Char Dham pilgrimage route and a place of ancient spiritual significance. Dinner and overnight stay at Uttarkashi.

Day 03 Uttarkashi to Gangotri and Back to Uttarkashi

Distance: Approx. 100 km each side

Driving Time: 3 to 4 hours each way

Start early for an excursion to Gangotri Dham, one of the four sacred Char Dham shrines and the divine origin point of the holy River Ganga. The drive itself is a joy, taking you through the lush Harsil Valley, tall pine forests and along the fast-flowing Bhagirathi River with snow-covered peaks all around. Gangotri is located at a height of approximately 3,200 metres above sea level, and the journey up to it is as uplifting as the destination itself.

At the sacred Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, take a holy dip in the cold, crystal-clear river water, which is believed to wash away all sins and bring peace and purity to the soul. Attend prayers at the temple and spend some quiet, reflective moments surrounded by the vast Himalayan landscape. The stillness and beauty of Gangotri is unlike anything else you will encounter on this journey. After darshan and time for personal prayer, drive back to Uttarkashi. Dinner and overnight stay at Uttarkashi.

Day 04 Uttarkashi to Guptkashi / Sitapur

Distance: Approx. 220 km

Driving Time: 8 to 9 hours

After breakfast, depart for Guptkashi or Sitapur, an important stop on the Char Dham pilgrimage route and the base camp for the Kedarnath Yatra. The drive is long but richly rewarding, passing through beautiful mountain villages, emerald valleys and several sacred river confluences of Uttarakhand. You will pass through Srinagar (Uttarakhand), Rudraprayag and Agastmuni, with the scenery growing more dramatic with every kilometre.

At Rudraprayag, take a moment to witness the sacred confluence of the Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers, a sight considered deeply holy by pilgrims. Upon arrival in Guptkashi or Sitapur, check in at the hotel and rest well. The evening is free to relax, prepare yourself physically and mentally for the Kedarnath trek the next morning, and soak in the quiet mountain atmosphere. Dinner and overnight stay at Guptkashi or Sitapur.

Day 05 Guptkashi to Kedarnath

This is the most exciting and spiritually powerful day of the entire yatra. Rise early and drive to Gaurikund, the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath Temple. From Gaurikund, begin the trek through breathtaking Himalayan landscapes surrounded by waterfalls, glaciers and towering snow-capped peaks on all sides. The trail is demanding but deeply rewarding, and the anticipation of reaching one of India’s holiest temples grows with every step you take. For those who need assistance, pony rides, palki (palanquin) and helicopter services are available at an additional cost.

Upon reaching Kedarnath, check in at the guesthouse or camp and rest for a while. In the evening, visit the sacred Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and among the holiest pilgrimage sites in all of India. The temple stands at approximately 3,583 metres with great Himalayan glaciers rising majestically behind it, and the spiritual energy of the place is impossible to put into words. Attend the evening aarti and feel the deep peace and divine presence of this extraordinary mountain sanctuary. Overnight stay at Kedarnath.

Day 06 Kedarnath to Guptkashi

Wake up early to attend the morning darshan at Kedarnath Temple. Seeing the ancient stone temple in the first light of dawn, with glaciers glowing behind it and the mountains utterly still around you, is a truly transcendent experience that you will carry with you long after the journey ends. Take time for personal prayer and quiet reflection before beginning the return trek to Gaurikund.

The descent through the mountain terrain offers new perspectives on the landscape that surrounds this sacred site. Upon reaching Gaurikund, meet your driver and continue the drive to Guptkashi. Check in at the hotel, rest well and allow your body to recover after the physically demanding two-day Kedarnath experience. Dinner and overnight stay at Guptkashi.

Day 07 Guptkashi to Badrinath

Distance: Approx. 190 km

Driving Time: 7 to 8 hours

After breakfast, drive towards Badrinath via Joshimath, enjoying some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the Himalayas along the way. Deep river gorges, charming Himalayan villages and sweeping green valleys accompany you throughout the journey. En route, pass through the sacred Vishnuprayag confluence and the important town of Joshimath, a significant centre in the Garhwal hills.

Arrive at Badrinath, situated at approximately 3,300 metres above sea level, and check in at the hotel. Visit the famous Badrinath Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, one of the most revered shrines in India. Before entering the temple, pilgrims traditionally take a purifying dip at Tapt Kund, a natural hot water spring believed to have spiritual and medicinal properties. If time and weather permit, visit Mana Village, the last Indian village before the Tibet border, a place rich in mythology and Himalayan heritage. In the evening, attend the divine aarti at Badrinath Temple and absorb the serene spiritual atmosphere of this high-mountain holy site. Dinner and overnight stay at Badrinath.

Day 08 Badrinath to Rishikesh

Distance: Approx. 290 km

Driving Time: 9 to 10 hours

Begin the day with an early morning darshan at Badrinath Temple, a serene and uplifting experience in the cool mountain air as the temple opens for the first prayers of the day. After breakfast, start the long and scenic drive towards Rishikesh. The road takes you through the beautiful Himalayan valleys and four of the five sacred Panch Prayag river confluences, each one a place of great spiritual significance.

You will pass Vishnuprayag, Karnaprayag and Rudraprayag before reaching Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers converge to form the holy Ganga River. Each confluence is worth a brief stop to absorb its beauty and sanctity. Upon arrival in Rishikesh, check in at the hotel and rest after the long journey. In the evening, visit Triveni Ghat to witness the enchanting Ganga Aarti, where priests perform the aarti with oil lamps, incense and devotional chants as the river glows in the warm lamplight. It is a calm, beautiful and fitting close to a long day on the road. Dinner and overnight stay at Rishikesh.

Day 09 Rishikesh Sightseeing and Return to Delhi

Driving Time: 6 to 7 hours

After breakfast, spend the morning exploring Rishikesh, famously known across the world as the Yoga Capital of the World. The town sits on the banks of the Ganga and carries a peaceful, unhurried energy that makes it the perfect final chapter to a Himalayan pilgrimage. Visit Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula, the iconic hanging bridges over the Ganga that offer lovely views of the river and the surrounding hills, and explore Parmarth Niketan Ashram, one of the largest and most respected ashrams in Rishikesh.

Walk along the riverfront, browse the local markets for souvenirs, visit nearby temples and sit by the ghats to soak in the serene atmosphere of this sacred town. After sightseeing, begin the drive back to Delhi, carrying with you the unforgettable memories and the divine blessings of Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The journey back gives you time to reflect on everything you have seen, felt and experienced across these nine extraordinary days in the Himalayas.
